Wyndham Clark thinks the Olympic golf tournament is even bigger than the Ryder Cup.
After finishing T56 at the US Open, Clark secured his spot on Team USA for the Olympics. He joins Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, and Collin Morikawa in Paris.
Almost a year after first wearing a Team USA polo at senior level, Clark is set to make his Olympic debut. He earned 1.5 points from three matches as Luke Donald’s team won 16.5 -11.5 at Marco Simone.
Back in 2014, as an amateur, he played against Jon Rahm and Thomas Detry at the Palmer Cup where Europe won 18.5 -11.5 after a strong Saturday session.
Clark’s Journey and Determination:
Ten years later, Clark’s fighting spirit helped him not only make it to the Ryder Cup but also add another international team to his resume. His strong performances throughout 2023 and early 2024 have prepared him for a shot at an Olympic medal.
Fans might think it’s amazing how far he’s come since those early days of competition.
Discussing major golf events, Clark said that while the Ryder Cup is huge in golf, representing your country in the Olympics feels even bigger due to its global scale. “Hopefully all four of us can snag some podium spots,” he added enthusiastically about winning medals for Team USA.
When asked if he felt extra pressure because of how much he values the Olympics, Clark replied that making the team lifted a weight off his shoulders: “It doesn’t matter if you’re No.1 or No.4; making it is what counts.”
To win an Olympic medal though, he’ll need to regain his form after two missed cuts and no better than T47 finishes recently.
Earlier this season, he finished T3 at RBC Heritage but then hit a slump before starting strong again with a four-under 66 at Travelers Championship this week. He’s been working hard on every part of his game lately: short game improvements led to swing issues which he’s now addressing too.
His next round tee time is set for 12:50pm ET (5:50pm BST), playing alongside Jordan Spieth.
