The world of golf is buzzing with talk about the PGA Tour and LIV Golf rivalry.
Wyndham Clark recently shared his thoughts on the No Laying Up podcast, suggesting that some players who moved to LIV Golf might be welcomed back to the PGA Tour. He believes it depends on their career achievements.
Clark mentioned, “I think guys that have had the career where they should be lifelong PGA Tour players, I think they deserve the right to come play the PGA Tour.” He specifically named Dustin Johnson, Phil Mickelson, and Brooks Koepka as deserving of this opportunity because they’ve won major titles and are likely future hall of famers. Fans might wonder if these big names will make a comeback soon.
Ongoing Negotiations and Opinions
Meanwhile, discussions between the PGA Tour and Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund continue. Greg Norman is expected to take on a higher role at LIV Golf, while Jay Monahan recently played alongside Yasir Al-Rumayyan at a tournament in Scotland.
However, Clark expressed reservations about less experienced players returning from LIV Golf. On the podcast, he explained his struggle with those who left without significant accomplishments: “They made their decision… I think that’s what a lot of us wrestle with.”
Interestingly, Bloomberg reported in September that some PGA Tour members believe LIV golfers should return any earnings gained since joining the rival circuit.
Clark also admitted he would have considered joining LIV if he could still compete in PGA events. “If we 100 percent knew we could take the money and come back,” he said candidly, “then we all would have done that.”
As for what’s next? The conclusion of LIV Golf’s season in September left little chatter about new player links. A Promotions Event is planned for next year but remains shrouded in mystery regarding format and participants.
What do you think? Should players be allowed to switch circuits freely?
