Viktor Hovland Eagles With Restored Signature Swing

Viktor Hovland’s unique ‘double-pump’ swing made a comeback at The Sentry, and it’s turning heads for all the right reasons.

The Norwegian star pulled out his signature move at the driveable par-4 14th hole, where he was sitting at four-under through his first 31 holes of 2025.

If you’ve never seen a double-pump swing before, it might look like something’s gone wrong. But for Hovland, it’s actually a secret weapon he’s been using since his rookie days.

“My normal driver swing creates a little cut,” Hovland explained back in 2019. “When I need a right-to-left shot or want some extra distance on a wide par 5, I break out the double-pump. It can give me up to 15 more yards without losing accuracy.”

The proof was in the pudding at the 14th hole. Hovland launched a monster 300-yard uphill shot that landed right on the green. Even better? He sank the eagle putt.

He’s not the only one using this unusual technique. Long Drive champion Seb Twaddell has turned the double-pump into an art form, using it to set a mind-blowing ball speed record of over 240 mph.

While Hovland isn’t quite hitting those crazy numbers, the technique is clearly working for him. He followed up with a birdie on the 15th and shot a solid five-under 68 on Saturday.

What makes this even more impressive? He’s doing all this with a broken toe. Just a week before The Sentry, Hovland had a losing battle with his bed frame, as he shared on social media with an X-ray and the caption “Bed frame 1 – 0 me.”

Despite the injury, he’s currently tied for 31st and his scores keep getting better as the tournament goes on. Not bad for a guy who should probably be wearing a protective boot instead of golf shoes.
