USA Outperformed Europe in Solheim Cup: Surprising Statistic

Throughout the 2024 Solheim Cup, USA dominated the event.

The Americans showed their strength on par 5s, especially during Sunday singles matches. In team play, which included foursomes and four-ball sessions, USA won 12 times on par 5s while Europe managed eight wins with six ties in the foursomes.

In the four-ball sessions, USA shined even brighter. They secured 15 wins on par 5s compared to Europe’s five wins in the afternoon session and 12 ties. Overall, this meant USA had a total of 27 wins on par 5s against Europe’s 13 wins and 18 ties.

During Sunday’s singles matches, USA continued their winning streak on par 5s with an impressive tally of 18 wins. Europe lagged behind with only 12 wins and there were also 16 ties. The Robert Trent Jones Golf Club has just four par-5 holes among its total of eighteen holes. Yet, when counting all rounds played, USA triumphed on these holes a staggering fifty-five times compared to Europe’s twenty-five.

Key Factors:

Megan Khang reflected on this success by saying, “I think captain (Stacy Lewis) definitely put it in our favor in the sense of some holes being a little softer than others and the par-5s being reachable for all of us.” This strategy seemed to pay off handsomely for Team USA.

Rose Zhang also shared her thoughts: “We’re overall aggressive players, but I think we know where to place the ball, and we allow the slopes to do their thing… We’ve been pretty creative with how we’ve been playing the hole and able to get the job done.”

Fans might feel that Team USA’s aggressive yet strategic approach was key to their victory.

In conclusion, after seven years without a win at Solheim Cup, Team USA finally clinched it again with a final score of 15.5 – 12.5 despite starting Sunday ahead by just four points at ten-six. Lilia Vu’s birdie-birdie finish helped secure this long-awaited triumph for Stacy Lewis’ team.
