US Solheim Cup star Ally Ewing has announced her retirement from professional golf at the age of 31.
Ewing, who began her career as McDonald, shared the news on social media through a heartfelt audio message. She reminisced about earning full LPGA Tour status, calling it a “dream come true” and expressing gratitude for living out a dream many aspire to achieve.
She also highlighted representing her country in the Solheim Cup as “the highest honor of my career” and thanked the LPGA for all she accomplished. With a heavy but grateful heart, she announced her retirement at the end of this year.
Career Highlights:
Turning pro in 2015, Ewing claimed three victories on the LPGA Tour. Her first win came in 2020 at the LPGA Drive On Championship. She followed this with wins at the 2021 Bank of Hope LPGA Match-Play and the 2022 Kroger Queen City Championship.
The Mississippi native also achieved seven top-10 finishes in Majors throughout her career. This year alone, she secured three top-10 finishes, including a T10 at the Amundi Evian Championship .
Fans might feel mixed emotions about this news; it’s always tough to see a favorite player leave but exciting to see what they do next.
Ewing represented her country four times in the Solheim Cup, ending with an overall record of 3-12-1. Despite personal setbacks during matches like those at Robert Trent Golf Club earlier this month—where she lost all four sessions—the team clinched their first trophy since 2017. This was Ewing’s first taste of Solheim Cup victory.
Her decision mirrors that of another US Solheim Cup star, Lexi Thompson, who also announced her retirement earlier this year.
