The US Junior Amateur in 2024 gained significant attention due to the participation of Tiger Woods’ son, Charlie.
Although Charlie didn’t make it to the Match Play section, other young talents like Blades Brown and Miles Russell showcased their skills. Ultimately, Trevor Gutschewski emerged victorious by defeating Tyler Watts in the final.
Winning this event comes with several perks beyond just prestige .
Gold Medal
Trevor Gutschewski, at 17 years old, clinched the title by beating Tyler Watts 4&3 in a 36-hole final at Oakland Hills. Like other USGA events, he received a gold medal as a keepsake for his achievement.
US Junior Amateur Trophy
Another reward for winning is getting to keep the trophy for one year. This sterling silver piece was crafted by JE Caldwell and Co and is modeled after an original bowl by Samuel Williamson that resides in the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
Name On A Plaque
The winner’s name gets engraved on a plaque honoring all champions of 2024 USGA events. This plaque will be displayed in the Hall of Champions inside the USGA Museum located in Liberty Corner, New Jersey.
Exemptions
Gutschewski also gains some career-boosting benefits like an exemption into next year’s US Open at Oakmont—provided he remains an amateur. Fans might think this is a huge opportunity for him!
Additionally, he expressed his excitement about playing alongside professionals: “It’s going to be awesome. I don’t know; it’s going to be awesome. It’s going to be really cool to play in those tournaments after watching my dad [PGA Tour pro Scott] play in those for my whole life really.”
Trevor still has eligibility until he turns 19 and won’t need to worry about qualifying again thanks to his win. He also gets exemptions into the next two editions of the US Amateur.
