LIV Golf returns to the UK for its third year after debuting at Centurion Club in June 2022.
The event will be held at JCB Golf and Country Club, featuring stars like Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm, Phil Mickelson, and Brooks Koepka.
Paul Casey is excited to play on home turf again after missing The Open in Scotland last week. He feels the UK is “starved” of golf compared to when he started his career.
Casey shared his thoughts: “Golf in the UK is huge. It’s one of the biggest markets worldwide,” he said before the event. Grounds passes are already sold out.
He added, “It’s a home game for me with lots of friends and family coming. Even friends from up north are joining us. I think this week will have a lot of energy.”
Casey also mentioned that fans in the UK are eager for more golf events . “When I started playing, there were six or seven professional events here; now there are fewer,” he explained. Fans might feel thrilled about this news as it brings more excitement to their local scene.
Olympic Memories
Casey reminisced about his experience at the Olympics, which he’s missing this time around. Tommy Fleetwood and Matt Fitzpatrick will represent Great Britain and Northern Ireland instead.
Reflecting on Tokyo’s Olympics where he missed a bronze medal in a seven-man playoff, Casey said it was sobering but gave him insight into an athlete’s journey.
“We play almost every week,” he noted, contrasting with Olympic athletes who train for years for one shot. Despite not winning a medal, representing his country was unforgettable for him.
“The Olympics ranks right up there as one of the greatest things I’ve ever done,” Casey admitted. Although COVID restrictions limited interactions in Japan, it was still an amazing experience.
He praised Tommy Fleetwood as an ideal teammate and expressed confidence that both Fleetwood and Fitzpatrick would perform well this year: “I think they have a great chance of winning a medal.”
Currently ranked 13th in LIV Golf League standings with Crushers GC second overall, Casey remains optimistic about future opportunities.
