Tyrrell Hatton is focused on making Team Europe for the 2025 Ryder Cup.
He needs to play at least four DP World Tour events by season’s end to qualify. So far, he’s only played in January’s Dubai Desert Classic, finishing T31.
This week, Hatton competed in the UK’s 11th LIV Golf event of the season. After his second round, trailing Andy Ogletree by two shots, he shared his plans: “Yeah, I’m down to play British Masters, Spanish Open and Dunhill Links.”
Upcoming Events:
Hatton’s schedule kicks off on August 29 with the British Masters. The Spanish Open and Alfred Dunhill Links Championship follow right after LIV’s Team Championship ends. He joined LIV Golf just before this season began but always aimed to qualify for the Ryder Cup.
“Before signing with LIV,” he said, “I had conversations about maintaining my membership and how important the Ryder Cup is to me.”
Back in April, DP World Tour CEO Guy Kinnings assured players like Hatton that they could still qualify for the Ryder Cup if they followed certain rules like paying fines and serving bans for joining LIV Golf. He stated: “The reality is… there is no reason why players who have taken LIV membership could not qualify or be available for selection.”
Fans might think it’s a tough road ahead but exciting nonetheless!
In 2023, Hatton qualified via the World Points List despite being suspended from PGA Tour events after joining LIV Golf. Now he’ll likely rely on European Points List or hope for a wildcard pick from captain Luke Donald.
Despite Team Europe’s win at Marco Simone in 2023—where Hatton went 3-0-1—they’ll be underdogs in the US. But Hatton wants another shot at victory on American soil since their last success in Medinah back in 2012.
“I need to be a member of the Tour,” he added. “I’m hoping those three events will give me enough points so I can also play Abu Dhabi and Dubai in November.”
What do you think? Will Hatton make it?
