Tyrrell Hatton Returns to DP World Tour at British Masters

Tyrrell Hatton is set to play in the Betfred British Masters this week.

Earlier this year, he participated in the Dubai Desert Classic and finished tied for 31st. Shortly after, he joined Jon Rahm’s Legion XIII on the LIV Golf League circuit.

Hatton has had a stellar debut season with LIV, currently sitting third in individual standings and winning his first title at LIV Golf Nashville in June. He has earned $10.6 million from 12 events and his team, Legion XI GC, is second in the standings.

Upcoming Tournaments and Ryder Cup Aspirations:

Hatton’s next event will be on the DP World Tour at The Belfry in England. He didn’t resign from the DP World Tour when he moved to LIV, so he’s still eligible to compete as long as there are no schedule conflicts.

However, playing LIV events that clash with DP World Tour events could lead to fines or suspensions for Hatton. According to a spokesperson, “Tyrrell has a pending appeal against sanctions imposed on him for breaching the DP World Tour’s Conflicting Tournament Regulation.” As a result of this appeal, any fines are on hold until it concludes .

Fans might think it’s tricky navigating these dual commitments!

The next LIV tournament is mid-September in Chicago. This gives Hatton time to play one of four required DP World Tour events to keep his membership active. Another reason he’s playing at The Belfry is that Ryder Cup qualification starts here. Players can’t earn Ryder Cup points at LIV events due to OWGR rules, and PGA Tour points won’t be available until January 2025.

Hatton said: “(The Ryder Cup is) certainly one of the reasons why I wanted to play this week…” He aims for a strong start towards making Team Europe next year alongside Rahm.

Both players need points from their limited appearances on the DP World Tour and Majors. Besides the British Masters, Hatton plans to play at Open de Espana and Alfred Dunhill Links Championship later this month. Rahm hasn’t confirmed his schedule but is expected to participate four times before year’s end.

What do you think about Hatton’s chances?
