Paul Broadhurst is playing in the Senior Open at Carnoustie this week, aiming to win like he did eight years ago.
But things didn’t start well for him when he missed a simple putt in the first round.
On the seventh green, Broadhurst was trying to save par with a one-under score. His first putt was close but not quite there, leaving him an easy shot for bogey.
It looked like an easy tap-in, and Broadhurst seemed relaxed about it. But surprisingly, he missed and ended up with a double bogey, putting him one-over for the day.
Unexpected Challenges:
Two holes later, things got worse with another bogey. However, he bounced back with birdies on the 10th and 12th holes and three more after that, finishing three-under for his round.
Fans might feel mixed emotions about this rollercoaster performance.
This moment reminded many of Hale Irwin’s famous miss at the 1983 Open at Royal Birkdale. Irwin had a two-inch putt but missed it too, costing him dearly as Tom Watson won by just one shot.
With three days left at Carnoustie, Broadhurst still has time to turn things around. He plays on both the Legends Tour and PGA Tour Champions and is only one shot behind Stephen Ames going into the second round.
What do you think? Can Broadhurst make a comeback?
