As the LPGA Tour season comes to a close at the CME Group Tour Championship, a number of big names, including defending champion Lydia Ko, won’t be participating. Five players who missed out on securing a spot in the season finale include Lexi Thompson, Emily Pedersen, Jeongeun Lee6, and In Gee Chun.
For Lexi Thompson, this will be the first time in 12 years that she won’t be participating in the season finale. Despite a poor start to the season, Thompson finished strong with three top-10 finishes in her last three LPGA Tour events.
Emily Pedersen’s season highlight was her performance in the Solheim Cup in Spain, where she helped Team Europe secure two-and-a-half points. However, her disappointing end to the season saw her miss out on the top 60 after losing her lead in the final round of The Annika.
Lydia Ko, who had a standout season in 2022, has struggled to find similar success this year. Other players who missed out on the season finale include Jeongeun Lee6 and In Gee Chun, both of whom have had a challenging season after achieving success in previous years.
These players may have missed out on the season finale, but they are all looking ahead to the next season with hopes of a better performance. As Lexi Thompson mentioned, “I did not finish outside the top 10 in my last three LPGA Tour events, which suggests that I could make up for what has been a pretty average campaign next season.”
