Tony Bellew recently made waves in the golf scene.
The former boxing champion hit an incredible albatross at the BMW PGA Championship Celebrity Pro-Am.
Despite this amazing feat, he knows he’s not a great golfer and even doubts Tiger Woods could help him improve much.
Bellew shared his dream of playing with Tiger Woods. "Who wouldn’t want to spend time with the legend that is Tiger Woods? The greatest golfer ever. What I’d give to meet him," he said. He added, "Even if he gives me any bleeding advice I don’t think it’s going to make a blind bit of difference. I’m s*** and I’ve just got to accept it."
Challenges on the Course:
Since retiring from boxing in 2018, Bellew has focused more on golf, aiming for a single-figure handicap. However, staying fit has been tough for him over the years. He admitted, “I’m a fat f***er. I’m not in any kind of great shape at all but it’s difficult."
Fans might find it surprising how candidly Bellew talks about his struggles with fitness and golf.
He also mentioned how hard it is to stay in shape after reaching the top of his sport. “It’s hard to stay in shape especially when you’ve been to the top of your sport and you’ve been a world champion. It’s very, very, very hard,” he confessed.
Bellew enjoys playing golf but admits he’s not very good at it most times. "I tend to play golf a lot more. I use the word golf loosely. I like to swing a club at a ball," he said humorously.
His partners at the Pro-Am event—Matteo Manassero, Sam Thompson, and Gwilym Lee—probably saw his skills differently after witnessing his albatross shot.
