Tommy Fleetwood’s Winless Drought & Love for Golf

How does Tommy Fleetwood feel about golf? He loves it, and it’s his “absolute favourite thing to do.”

Given his talent and consistent performance, that’s no surprise. This year, he’s been on fire with impressive results following his win at the Dubai Invitational against Rory McIlroy in January.

Fleetwood has only missed one cut all year. Out of 17 starts across both circuits, he’s achieved 10 top-25 finishes, including a career-best T3 at The Masters in April . This means he now has top-five finishes in all four Majors.

Despite these achievements, questions linger about why he hasn’t won a PGA Tour title yet. For someone instrumental in two Ryder Cup victories, this is a glaring gap in his resume.

Pressure and Expectations:

Fleetwood knows that wins are what really count. Since November 2022, when he won the Nedbank Golf Challenge for the second time, he’s only had one victory. So how does he handle this pressure? Speaking before the 152nd Open Championship at Royal Troon, Fleetwood shared his thoughts.

“I try not to dwell on it too much,” he said candidly. “I get frustrated like anybody else. I get down on myself like anybody else.” He admits he’s not where he’d like to be despite doing well overall.

Fans might think it’s high time for him to clinch another win given his skills and consistency.

“But like I said,” Fleetwood continued, “I try not to dwell on it.” Instead, he focuses on positives and what needs improvement to contend and win tournaments. Even when playing well can be annoying because you might miss a putt or finish just behind where you thought you could be .

He’s not alone; many world-class golfers haven’t yet snagged their first PGA Tour victory either—like Cameron Young.

Fleetwood turned pro in 2010 but started playing regularly on the PGA Tour only from 2018 onward. He still believes there’s more potential within him waiting to be unleashed .

“I still love golf,” Fleetwood states firmly. “Golf is my absolute favourite thing to do.” He wakes up every day wanting to become better and find ways to improve his game continually .

“There are so many tournaments I enjoy playing and want to win,” says Fleetwood passionately .

He remains excited about each new opportunity: “I’ll wake up tomorrow excited for The Open.”

Whether good or bad days come by during playtime doesn’t matter much as long as passion drives him forward relentlessly !

What do you think? Will Tommy finally grab that elusive PGA Tour title soon?
