Tiger Woods Swings at TGL Simulator

Tiger Woods swings at a TGL simulator.

Tiger Woods is set to compete again after missing The Open in July. Recently, he tried out a massive simulator for the new tech-filled TGL contest he’s starting with Rory McIlroy. ESPN shared a short video showing his smooth swing as he hit the ball into this giant simulator.

Fans are thrilled to see him back after his sixth back surgery in September, which kept him from playing in the Hero World Challenge last week. The video also gives us a sneak peek of what this TV competition will be like when it kicks off in January.

The TGL event will happen at the SoFi Center at Palm Beach State College, Florida. Here, teams will use an enormous 64 by 46 feet simulator—about 20 times bigger than usual ones—and there’s also a short-game area with three virtual greens and real-life putting space spanning 3,800 square feet.

Excitement Builds:

In November, anticipation grew when Billy Horschel, one of the 24 players involved, got an early glimpse of the setup and called it ‘unreal.’ Seeing Woods’ swing on this large simulator suggests Horschel wasn’t exaggerating.

Fans might think this new competition sounds exciting and different from regular golf events. It’s like mixing golf with futuristic technology!

The TGL was supposed to start a year ago but got delayed because of damage to the arena’s roof caused by a power failure in November 2023. Now it’s finally happening! The first match is on January 7th between New York Golf Club featuring Xander Schauffele and The Bay Golf Club with Ludvig Aberg.

Woods’ team, Jupiter Links Golf Club, will play against Colin Morikawa’s Los Angeles Golf Club a week later.

What do you think about Tiger’s return? Are you excited for this new kind of golf game?
