Tiger Woods has had another back surgery.
On Friday, Tiger’s social media announced he underwent microdecompression surgery on his lower back for nerve pain. The statement said: “Earlier this morning Tiger underwent microdecompression surgery of the lumbar spine for nerve impingement in the lower back.”
The procedure was successful, with Dr. Sheeraz Qureshi from Hospital For Special Surgery in West Palm Beach performing it. Woods added, “The surgery went smoothly, and I’m hopeful this will help alleviate the back spasms and pain I was experiencing throughout most of the 2024 season. I look forward to tackling this rehab and preparing myself to get back to normal life activities, including golf.”
This marks his sixth back surgery after a tough season where he barely played competitively. His first appearance this year was at February’s Genesis Invitational but he withdrew due to flu-like symptoms during the second round. The day before, he experienced back spasms that led to a cold shank on the closing hole.
Challenges Throughout The Season:
Woods mentioned his fused back as a reason for these spasms: “Because my back’s fused.” He also noted other physical challenges but accepted them as part of his journey: “Foot’s good. Leg’s a little bit sore, things are a little bit sore, but that’s to be expected.”
He did manage to play at The Masters and made the cut there but didn’t fare well in other Majors like PGA Championship, US Open, and The Open where he missed making it past the weekend.
Fans might feel sad about all these setbacks Tiger is facing.
Despite no signs of ankle issues post-2023 Masters surgery, his persistent back problems have now led him under the knife again. As of now, there’s no word if he’ll compete in December’s Hero World Challenge or PNC Championship with his son Charlie.
