Tiger Woods has pulled out of the Genesis Invitational following the death of his mother last week.
The golf legend was set to make his 2025 debut at Torrey Pines – which replaced Riviera due to LA wildfires – but the timing proved too difficult after losing his mom, Kultida.
“I planned to tee up this week, but I’m just not ready,” Woods said. “I did my best to prepare, knowing it’s what my Mom would have wanted, but I’m still processing her loss. Thanks to everyone who has reached out.”
It’s a tough setback for Tiger fans who were excited to see him return. He’d been pretty open about his game not being tour-ready in December, so his initial plan to play this week had given hope his form was improving.
So when might we see Tiger back on the course? Here are four tournaments where he could make his 2025 debut:
The Cognizant Classic (Feb 27 – Mar 2) might be a surprise choice, but it makes sense. If Tiger’s game is ready, PGA National could be a perfect warmup spot. He hasn’t played here since 2018, but has some good history – including a second-place finish behind Rory McIlroy in 2012.
The Arnold Palmer Invitational (Mar 6-9) seems like a natural fit. Tiger absolutely owns Bay Hill with eight wins there. It’s also a $20 million Signature Event, which might tempt him back to a course where he’s had incredible success.
The Players Championship (Mar 13-16) could be Tiger’s pick if he skips the earlier events. As a PGA Tour board member, he’d probably love to support their flagship tournament. Plus, he’s won twice
