Tiger Woods is sticking with Bridgestone, extending a partnership that’s lasted longer than some of his fans have been alive.
The 15-time Major champion announced Monday he’s renewed his contract with the golf ball manufacturer, continuing a relationship that’s quietly spanned 25 years.
“I have played a ball manufactured by Bridgestone since my memorable 2000 season,” Woods said. He praised the company’s commitment to innovation and technology, adding that he’s excited to keep working with their R&D team.
Here’s something most golf fans don’t know: Even during Tiger’s dominant Nike years, he was actually playing with Bridgestone technology. The Nike Tour Accuracy ball that helped him win three majors in 2000? That was made by Bridgestone.
That ball was pretty special for its time. While most pros were using liquid-filled cores, Tiger’s ball packed a rubber core with a urethane cover – a combo that helped him demolish the competition.
These days, Tiger’s gaming the Bridgestone Tour B X, and he’s in good company. Matt Kuchar, Chris Gotterup, and Tiger’s longtime buddy Fred Couples have all recently extended their deals with the company too.
Jason Day is also part of the Bridgestone family, along with Takumi Kanaya and recent Major winner Ayaka Furue, who takes it a step further by using Bridgestone clubs as well.
At 49, Woods continues to be one of golf’s most influential equipment endorsers. His decision to stick with Bridgestone – especially during January’s traditional equipment shuffle – shows just how much he values the relationship.
It’s a partnership that’s survived multiple swing changes, 15 major victories, and countless comebacks. And from the looks of it, Tiger’s not planning on changing his ball anytime soon.
