Tiger Woods won’t be the next Ryder Cup captain for Team USA in 2025.
The PGA of America will announce the new captain on Tuesday in New York, but it won’t be Woods. According to The Telegraph, he would have only taken the job if there were fewer commitments beforehand.
Since that couldn’t be guaranteed, they had to look at other options before the qualifying period starts later this year. Meanwhile, Team Europe already picked their captain months ago after a big win in Italy last September.
Luke Donald is back to lead Europe again after their 16.5-11.5 victory at Marco Simone . He agreed to return shortly after Rory McIlroy and his teammates celebrated their triumph.
Upcoming Announcement:
On Monday, the PGA of America said they’d reveal the new captain at noon ET on Tuesday from the NASDAQ building in New York. Fans might feel curious about who will take over next.
Earlier this year, rumors swirled about Woods replacing Johnson as captain. Woods didn’t deny it and mentioned having talks with Seth Waugh but wanted to wait until after The Masters for deeper discussions.
Woods said back then: “It’s something that Seth [Waugh – PGA of America CEO] and I are going to sit back and talk about it after this event.”
He added: “I’m going to be busy for a couple weeks, so let me focus on getting through this week and hopefully getting another jacket.”
That was in April. Since then, Waugh left his position at PGA of America, and no one has discussed who will replace Johnson much since then.
A report from Sports Illustrated suggests Keegan Bradley might become USA’s next Ryder Cup captain.
