Tiger Woods Cart Use Approved For PNC Championship

Tiger Woods is making his comeback to competitive golf this week, teaming up with his son Charlie at the PNC Championship. It’s his first tournament since July’s Open Championship, and golf fans are eager to see the father-son duo in action.

The Woods team has been pretty impressive in this event, finishing in the top eight every time they’ve played. They came really close to winning in 2021, ending up in second place.

Tiger’s been out of the game since September after having his sixth back surgery. That’s why he skipped the Hero World Challenge earlier this month – he just wasn’t ready.

“I’m not tournament sharp yet,” Woods admitted while in The Bahamas. He knew walking 18 holes four days in a row would’ve been too much for his back right now.

But the PNC Championship? That’s different.

Here’s why: Players can use golf carts in this tournament. It’s a two-day event, and being able to ride between shots makes a huge difference for Tiger’s recovery.

The tournament has some interesting rules about those carts, though. Players can’t drive ahead to check out their next shot, and they have to follow specific guidelines about who can ride when.

Last year, Tiger’s daughter Sam carried his bag as his caddie. This year, he’ll have Lance Bennett as his caddie for all four majors in 2024.

The cart situation is pretty unique to this event. Regular PGA Tour tournaments don’t allow carts – that’s only permitted in certain PGA Tour Champions events (the senior tour).

For Tiger and Charlie, this tournament is special. It’s a chance for them to compete together, something that’s become a beloved holiday tradition for golf fans.

The tournament, held at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club, gives us a rare chance to see one of golf’s greatest champions play alongside his son – and maybe this year they’ll grab that win they’ve been chasing.
