Tiger & Charlie Woods Missing from PNC Championship Field

Tiger and Charlie Woods not listed in initial PNC Championship lineup.

The PNC Championship is a fun golf event where families play together after a busy season. Tiger Woods and his son Charlie have been the stars in recent years, but they might not join this time at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club Orlando. Two more teams still need to be announced, so there’s a chance they could still appear.

Tiger had back surgery in September, which was his sixth one. Earlier in the year, he struggled with back spasms, even during February’s Genesis Invitational when he hit a shank on the last hole of his first round. He explained later that his back was causing him problems: “My back was spasming the last couple holes and it was locking up. I came down and it didn’t move and I presented hosel first and shanked it.”

Despite these issues, Tiger played in all four Majors of the year but only made it past The Masters cut. His latest surgery involved removing some tissue from his spine to ease nerve pain; it went well according to a statement on social media, though no return date was given yet.

Fans may wonder if Tiger will make a surprise appearance at any upcoming events.

Tiger hopes to recover soon and get back to playing golf as usual. He has no scheduled appearances until December for the Hero World Challenge, an event he hosts. The field for this event was announced in late October without Tiger’s name, leaving three spots open—perhaps one for him?

The PNC Championship might give Tiger extra time to decide if he’s ready to play again. In 2023, he and Charlie finished tied for fifth place as Bernhard Langer and Jason won.

Bernhard Langer returns with Jason in 2024 alongside new faces like Fred Couples with stepson Hunter Hannemann and Trevor Immelman with son Jacob. Other famous duos include John Daly with John Daly II and Nelly Korda with her dad Petr.

The tournament will be held on December 21-22.
