Thomas Bjorn, a European golfing veteran, seems to have played his last Dubai Desert Classic. He shared a touching message on social media, hinting at this. The 2018 Ryder Cup captain didn’t make the cut at the Emirates Golf Club, finishing four over. This could mean the 52-year-old has played his last game in this event.

Bjorn has a history with the Dubai Desert Classic. He won the star-studded 2001 event, beating Padraig Harrington and Tiger Woods by two shots. It’s an event he holds dear.

Bjorn’s post on social media hinted at his retirement from the DP World Tour. He wrote, “On what is most likely my last ever @DubaiDCGolf – the most heartfelt thank you.” He went on to express his love for the tournament, despite not performing well this week.

His victory in Dubai was one of 15 he would claim on the DP World Tour. His career also boasts an unbeaten Ryder Cup record. After winning three Ryder Cups as a player, he was named captain for the victorious European team at Le Golf National in Paris in 2018.

As players age, competing on the DP World Tour becomes more challenging. Bjorn may be counting down his days playing alongside Europe’s young talents. He tweeted, “On what is most likely my last ever @DubaiDCGolf – the most heartfelt thank you. Although this week wasn’t meant to be golf wise, this tournament has been unbelievably special to me and my family. The best of the best. Thank you for all the memories.”

While in Dubai, possibly for the last time, Bjorn also shared his thoughts on golf’s future. He called for a “global game” once the PGA Tour and PIF finalize their deal. He wrote, “The professional game is the shining light at the top of the pyramid. Imagine if that was a unified, global game where the best played against the best on the greatest courses in the greatest tournaments. It’s really not that difficult…”
