Spanish Golf Resort Finishes Three-Course Renovation

La Cala has been named Spain’s top golf resort for 2024 by IAGTO after a five-year renovation.

Located between Malaga and Marbella, the resort first opened in 1989 and started upgrading its Campo Asia course in 2019.

Campo Europa followed in 2020, with Campo America being the last to see improvements over two and a half months.

Course Enhancements:

All three courses at La Cala Golf Club, designed by Cabell Robinson, now feature Bermuda grass greens instead of bent grass. They also introduced the more efficient Bermuda Tahoma 31 variety on some tee boxes to enhance water efficiency and sustainability.

Besides changing the grass, they widened and extended several tee boxes to accommodate golfers of all skill levels. Fans might think these changes will make playing there more enjoyable.

Hotel Renovations:

With the courses updated, La Cala plans “extensive renovation” of its 107 bedrooms over the next three winters to modernize accommodations. The first phase will occur from December 2024 to February 2025, with limited hotel functionality from December 26 to January 6. The second phase follows next winter, aiming for full completion by March 2026.
