December’s got a big event coming up for golfers worldwide. The 2024 LIV Golf League is opening its doors via the LIV Golf Promotions event. Two DP World Tour winners have already committed to the tournament.

Per Ten Golf, we’ve got Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano and Alvaro Quiros, both from Spain, set to compete. The three-day event is happening in Abu Dhabi from 8 to 10 December. The top three finishers will earn LIV Golf places.

Fernandez-Castano is no stranger to winning, with seven DP World Tour wins under his belt. But, it’s been a while since his last victory – over 10 years ago at the 2013 BMW Masters. He’s 43 now and announced his participation on his YouTube channel, Golf Without Labels, which he co-hosts with Alejandro Larrazabal, the 2002 Amateur Championship winner.

Quiros made a similar announcement on his Ten Golf blog. He’s also a seven-time DP World Tour winner, with his most recent win at the 2017 Rocco Forte Open. He’s 40 now.

Both players have had a bit of a dry spell lately. Fernandez-Castano lost his DP World Tour card in 2022, and Quiros followed suit this year. They both reached the final stage of DP World Tour Q School at Infinitum Golf Club in their homeland earlier this month. But, neither of them made it among the 33 who secured DP World Tour cards for the 2024 season.

The first round of the 72-hole event will see the top 20 advancing. Then, the scores will reset for stage two. This stage will introduce players who automatically qualified for the second round. This includes the four relegated LIV players from the 2023 season: Chase Koepka, Jed Morgan, James Piot, and Sihwan Kim.

After another 18 holes, the top 20 will reach the final round. The scores will reset again for a 36-hole shootout. The top three finishers at the event, along with International Series Order of Merit winner Andy Ogletree, will proceed to the LIV Golf Draft. They’ll be assigned teams with open slots on their rosters.

DP World Tour event winners from 2022 or 2023 can participate in the tournament, with a bye to the second round. The LIV Golf League can also extend invitations to other players. Both Fernandez-Castano and Quiroz have confirmed they’ve received theirs.
