The Solheim Cup just ended with Team USA barely holding off Europe to win for the first time since 2017.
Now, many of those same players are heading to the Kroger Queen City Championship at TPC River’s Bend. Twelve of the 24 players from last week’s event will compete again right away.
Four Americans and eight Europeans are staying in the northeast until September 22. Among them is Charley Hull, who had a great Solheim Cup and beat Nelly Korda 6&4 in Sunday Singles. Hull said, “roll on next week!” after her strong performance against top players .
Hull and Korda will meet again under different circumstances as Korda aims for her seventh LPGA Tour title this season while Hull looks for her first. Hull also wants to make up for losing in a playoff at this event last year.
Rose Zhang was incredible at the Solheim Cup, winning all four of her matches. She hopes to keep that streak going at TPC River’s Bend. Andrea Lee, another US teammate, joins Zhang as she seeks her second LPGA Tour title two years after her first.
Lexi Thompson is also in the field. The 29-year-old is nearing the end of her full-time pro career but has one more shot at an LPGA Tour title this Sunday.
Solheim Cup Players In Action At Kroger Queen City Championship
For many European players, bouncing back from a tough week is key. Leona Maguire called it “a bitter pill to swallow” after playing only two sessions at RTJ despite never missing one before. She’s eager to prove herself again at TPC River’s Bend.
Linn Grant and Albane Valenzuela also want strong performances after disappointing showings against the US team. Grant didn’t score any points from four matches, and Valenzuela only managed half a point from two appearances.
Esther Henseleit earned 1.5 points from three outings and did well against Andrea Lee on Sunday. She aims for her first LPGA Tour victory in Ohio this week.
Two Swedish stars, Anna Nordqvist and Madelene Sagstrom, scored two points each at the Solheim Cup and were part of Europe’s big win over Thompson and Alison Lee 6&5 on Friday.
Georgia Hall rounds out the list of returning players. Fresh off a 4&3 win over Alison Lee on Sunday, Hall hasn’t won an LPGA Tour title since September 2020 but hopes to change that soon.
Fans might think it’s exciting to see these top players back in action so quickly!
