Sergio Garcia Set for 100th Major Appearance at 2025 Masters

Sergio Garcia is about to join an elite club in golf – he’ll play his 100th Major championship when he tees off at The Masters in 2025.

That’s nearly three decades of competing at golf’s highest level, starting way back at the 1996 Open Championship when he was just a teenager.

Only 18 other players have ever reached the century mark in Majors. The legendary Jack Nicklaus tops the list with an incredible 164 appearances.

“Not a lot of people have been able to get over the 100-Major mark,” Garcia said. “It’s obviously an honor and something that I’m super proud of.”

The milestone means even more to the Spanish star now that he’s with LIV Golf. Without world ranking points, it’s gotten tougher for him to qualify for all four Majors each year.

But Garcia’s not giving up. He’s been grinding through qualifying tournaments just to keep his Major streak alive.

“Every time I’m in one of those Majors, I have to give everything I have,” he said. “I try to enjoy it as much as possible because you never know when it’s going to be your last one.”

His dedication shows in the numbers. From 2000 to 2022, Garcia only missed one Major – the 2020 Masters due to COVID-19. That’s an amazing run of consistency at golf’s biggest events.

The highlight of his Major career came in 2017 when he finally broke through to win the Masters in a thrilling playoff against Justin Rose. It was a career-defining moment that golf fans won’t soon forget.

He’s come close several other times too:
– Runner-up at the 2007 Open Championship (losing in a playoff)
– Second place at the 2014 Open
– Two second-place finishes at the PGA Championship (1999 and 2008)

In total, Garcia has made the cut in 65 of his 99 Major appearances and racked up 23 top-10 finishes. In 2002, he did something special – finishing in the top 10 at all four Majors that year. Only 28 other players have ever managed that feat.

For a player of his immense talent, some might say one Major victory isn’t enough. But reaching 100 Major appearances shows just how consistently excellent Garcia has been throughout his career.

When he drives down Magnolia Lane next spring, he’ll add another impressive chapter to what’s already been a remarkable story in golf.
