Sergio Garcia is back on the DP World Tour after settling fines from playing in LIV Golf.
After 18 months away, he’s now listed in exemption Category 1, which includes winners of major tournaments between 2017 and 2025. This move might help him return to the European Ryder Cup team.
Garcia holds the record for most points scored at the Ryder Cup, but his future participation depended on resolving his fines and rejoining the tour.
Rejoining the Tour
In a recent chat, Garcia expressed hope about continuing his Ryder Cup journey. “I definitely hope so,” he said, adding that he wants to support the European Tour and hopes for an agreement soon. Fans might think this comeback is exciting news!
Garcia believes his game is still strong enough for two or three more Ryder Cups if everything falls into place. Back in October, during a media event in New York, Luke Donald shared that he’d spoken with Garcia about rejoining and following all necessary rules.
Earlier hints suggested Garcia’s return was possible when he tried paying fines last year to regain eligibility. However, Keith Pelley once told him there was “no chance” of coming back.
Despite setbacks, Garcia mentioned on a podcast that he aimed to be a member again to boost his chances for the Ryder Cup.
The DP World Tour also noted that appeals from other LIV golfers like Jon Rahm haven’t been resolved yet, allowing them to keep playing for now.
