Scottie Scheffler’s bringing a taste of home to Augusta National for his second Champions Dinner, with some delicious new additions that tell quite a family story.
The world’s top golfer is sticking to his Texas roots for the exclusive pre-Masters feast, but he’s added a special tribute to his dad – “Papa Scheff’s Meatballs and Ravioli Bites.”
It’s a pretty funny choice, considering these were the same meatballs he was cooking at Christmas when he hurt his hand. The name comes from what Scheffler’s kids now call their grandfather.
“My dad’s meatballs were always his best meal,” Scheffler says with a smile.
He’s also swapped out last year’s super-spicy tortilla soup (which was apparently too hot for some of the past champions) with a Texas-style chili. This one’s inspired by his coach Randy Smith, who Scheffler swears makes the best chili around.
The main course? He’s keeping it classic with ribeye and redfish, washed down with tequila and bourbon.
But here’s the really interesting part – those “Scottie Style” cheeseburger sliders on the menu have a special twist.
“I always put the fries on my burger,” Scheffler reveals. “It’s thin patties with cheese between each one, then I throw the fries right in there with some ketchup. It’s pretty great.”
The Champions Dinner is one of Augusta’s most exclusive traditions. You’ve got to have a Green Jacket just to get in the door, and as the defending champ, Scheffler gets to play host.
“It should be a fun night,” he says. “I’m really excited to see what the Augusta chefs pull off this year.”
The dinner’s set for Tuesday night before the 2025 Masters gets underway. It’s a chance for Scheffler to share a bit of his life story through food – from his dad’s famous meatballs to his childhood burger habits.
For a guy who’s dominated golf lately, he’s keeping things surprisingly down-to-earth. Just good old Texas comfort food with a side of family tradition.
