Scottie Scheffler Open Championship Record

Scottie Scheffler has been a dominant force in golf, but his performances at the Open Championship have been mixed.

Despite starting strong, he hasn’t quite mastered links golf yet. His results have worsened each year since his debut.

Scheffler’s inconsistency on the links is unusual for him, with four of his 12 rounds over par hurting his chances.

He’s still managed a combined 16 under par across three Opens and hasn’t finished a tournament over par. Fans might think this could be the year everything clicks for him at Royal Troon.

2021 Royal St George’s

Scheffler made an impressive debut at Royal St George’s, finishing T8 with scores of 67, 66, 69, and 71. However, Collin Morikawa stole the spotlight by winning the Claret Jug on his first attempt. Morikawa’s final score was eight shots better than Scheffler’s.

Going into Sunday’s final round just three shots behind Morikawa after solid scores in the 60s left Scheffler well within striking distance of leader Louis Oosthuizen. But while Morikawa shot a brilliant 66 to win The Open, Scheffler couldn’t get going and had his worst round of the week.

2022 St Andrews

At St Andrews in 2022, Scheffler finished T21 with scores of 68, 68, 69, and a disappointing final round of 74. He was consistently near the top throughout the week but fell short due to another poor Sunday performance.

He ended each day in positions like T5 and T6 but was always trailing behind leaders Rory McIlroy and Viktor Hovland by five shots. Cameron Smith eventually won with an incredible final round of 64—ten strokes better than Scheffler’s Sunday score.

Fans might feel that despite being close several times, Scottie just needs that one breakthrough moment to clinch it all.

2023 Royal Liverpool

In last year’s Open at Royal Liverpool, Scheffler had his best final round ever but ironically finished T23 overall due to struggles earlier in the tournament (scores: 70, 75, 72, and an excellent closing round of 67).

The tough conditions on Wirral Peninsula made it hard for everyone; however it was particularly challenging for Scottie on greens where he struggled most despite excellent ball-striking form off tees and fairways leading up to them!

Brian Harman excelled thanks largely due using large-headed putter effectively whereas flat stick woes meant no trophies homeward bound again…

What do you think? Will this be Scottie’s year?
