World No.1 Scottie Scheffler downplayed his back injury after showing clear pain at the BMW Championship in Colorado.
Despite the discomfort, Scheffler managed a one-under round of 69 at Castle Pines, trailing leader Keegan Bradley by five shots in the FedEx Cup Playoffs.
The two-time Masters champion was seen wincing and holding his back on the 17th hole but dismissed it as “a little bit tight” and expected to recover soon.
Scheffler explained he woke up sore and had trouble loosening up. He speculated that maybe he hit too many balls the previous day. “I’m sure I’ll get some ice on it and stuff, and I’ll be totally fine tomorrow,” he added.
Dealing with Pain:
Walking around Castle Pines with a sore back was tough for him, especially when trying specific shots like a high draw on 17. Fans might think he’s downplaying it to keep spirits high.
“I mean, that was hard,” he said about his shot on 17. “With it being a little bit tight, it was hard for me to get through it.”
Scheffler’s reaction wasn’t surprising given his history of playing through injuries. He won The Masters with stiffness and almost withdrew from The Players due to neck issues before shooting a final-round 64 to win.
Xander Schauffele noticed only minor signs of Scheffler’s discomfort while playing together on Thursday. “There were a few times – maybe when he turned his head – he looked a little stiff,” Schauffele observed.
Fans might wonder if this is just another hurdle Scheffler will overcome to dominate once again. What do you think?
