Rory McIlroy has high hopes for the future of the PGA Tour, particularly when it comes to potential agreements with the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) behind LIV Golf. Talks have been ongoing for several months, with a deadline looming at the end of the year. However, the possibility of other investors stepping in has also been a topic of speculation. McIlroy shared his thoughts on the matter during an appearance on CNBC’s Halftime Report alongside Tom Werner, chairman of Fenway Sports Group.

Expressing his desire for unity in the elite golfing world, McIlroy stated, “I feel like we’ve got a fractured competitive landscape right now and I would prefer if everyone sort of got back into the same boat. I think that’s the best thing for golf.” He emphasized the importance of bringing the game of golf back together, expressing the hope that the PGA Tour can come to an agreement with the PIF.

While McIlroy has been critical of LIV Golf in the past, he believes that an agreement with the PIF is the best way to repair the fractures in the elite game. He reiterated his hope that the PIF will be involved in the framework agreement, despite the involvement of other potential suitors. McIlroy hopes that the PGA Tour and the PIF can work together to unite the world of golf once again.

In addition to discussing the future of the PGA Tour, McIlroy also offered insights into the upcoming tech-infused venture, TGL, which he is a co-founder of. He explained the innovative nature of TGL, stating, “We’re trying to bring the game of golf into the 21st century. I think a lot of people will connect with the fact that we’re playing indoors. It’ll look nothing like traditional golf.”

McIlroy’s vision for TGL includes creating an experience reminiscent of an NBA game, aiming to set it apart from traditional golf tours. He believes that these innovations will help differentiate TGL from other ventures, particularly LIV Golf. At a recent press conference, he expressed his concerns about LIV Golf being “caught in no man’s land” due to the nature of its innovations. Through TGL and potential agreements with the PIF, McIlroy is dedicated to uniting and evolving the sport of golf for a new era.
