Rory McIlroy at US Open Tennis Semi-Final in NYC

Rory McIlroy at US Open Tennis Semi-Final in New York.

Rory McIlroy is taking a break from golf to watch some tennis in New York.

After finishing 12th at the Tour Championship, Rory decided to enjoy his week off by attending the US Open. On Friday, he was seen at Arthur Ashe Stadium watching an exciting semi-final match between Francis Tiafoe and Taylor Fritz.

The game was intense, with Fritz eventually winning in five sets to reach his first Grand Slam final against Jannik Sinner.

McIlroy often heads to New York after big tournaments to relax. After losing the US Open to Bryson DeChambeau, he wandered around Manhattan for a few days. “I walked the High Line a couple of times,” he said. “It was good to be alone with my thoughts.”

Upcoming Events:

Even though he’s taking a break now, Rory has more golf lined up this year. He will play at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth later this month. However, after playing so much in 2024, he admitted feeling exhausted and plans to cut back next year.

Fans might think it’s smart for him to rest now before more competitions.

Interestingly, despite saying he’ll scale back next year, Rory has already committed to another event in December. He and Scottie Scheffler will face Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka in a TV match.

Watching tennis instead of playing golf must have been a nice change for him this week.

Rory wasn’t alone; Trevor Immelman from CBS Sports’ golf team also watched the same match. Earlier in the tournament, Nelly Korda supported her brother Seb during his second-round match, although he lost.

What do you think about Rory’s way of relaxing?
