In a thrilling finish at the Porsche Singapore Classic, Richard Mansell sank a clutch birdie putt on the final hole to claim his first-ever DP World Tour victory.
The 29-year-old Englishman shot an impressive six-under 66 in Sunday’s final round, finishing at -16 overall to edge out Japan’s Keita Nakajima by a single shot.
It was an emotional breakthrough for Mansell, who turned pro in 2017 and had come agonizingly close to winning before.
"What a feeling," Mansell said, fighting back tears as his wife Ellie rushed to embrace him. "That moment’s the most fulfilling thing in the world."
The tournament, shortened to 54 holes due to heavy rainfall earlier in the week, saw Mansell catch fire on the front nine. He reeled off five straight birdies between holes 4 and 8 at Laguna National Golf Resort Club.
Making the turn in just 30 strokes, he built a two-shot cushion.
Things got tense when Nakajima, playing ahead, birdied the last hole to tie for the lead at -15. But Mansell kept his cool, two-putting from over 100 feet on 18 to secure the win.
It was a sweet redemption for Mansell, who had previously let victories slip away – most notably at the 2022 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship where he surrendered a four-shot lead in the final round.
"I’ve had quite a few close calls and didn’t get it done," he admitted. "I started pointing fingers, blaming other people. But these past six months, I’ve really worked on staying patient and focusing on myself."
The victory was extra special with his new caddie on the bag for their very first week together.
Behind the winner, Nakajima’s bogey-free 65 earned him solo second place. Adrien Saddier and Tom McKibbin shared third at -14, while Marcus Armitage took fifth.
Scottish star Robert MacIntyre finished tied for ninth at -11.
The DP World Tour heads to New Delhi next week for the Hero Indian Open at DLF Golf & Country Club.
