The US team is heading to the 2024 Presidents Cup in Canada with a strong track record, having won 12 out of 14 times since 1994.
Given this history, it’s no shock that the US is favored again in 2024, but it’s not just about past wins.
Both the US and International teams chose players through six automatic qualifiers and six captain’s picks by Jim Furyk, who has a wealth of talent at his disposal.
Scottie Scheffler stands out as World No.1, dominating in 2024 with his first FedEx Cup win after six PGA Tour victories this year and an Olympic gold medal. But he’s not alone; Xander Schauffele also shines, winning two Majors – the PGA Championship and the US Open – and ranking second globally.
Collin Morikawa hasn’t won on the PGA Tour this season but has been close to Scheffler multiple times and is currently World No.4. Patrick Cantlay boasts six points from just two Presidents Cups (2019 and 2022), while Max Homa excelled at Quail Hollow with four wins two years ago and a solid Ryder Cup performance last year.
Fans might think this team looks unbeatable! However, if there’s a weak spot for Team USA, it could be their lack of experience compared to the International Team’s 27 appearances. The US team has only 11 appearances among its members, including rookies like Wyndham Clark, Sahith Theegala, Brian Harman, and Russell Henley.
Whether this inexperience will affect their performance after nine consecutive victories since a tie in 2003 remains uncertain. Stats still favor the US heavily though; Furyk hopes they deliver on match day.
