PGA Tour PIF Deal: Jordan Spieth Says Talks Active

He’s deeply involved in the PGA Tour discussions with Saudi PIF, but Jordan Spieth says he can’t talk about specific details like how LIV Golf players might return to the PGA Tour.

Spieth mentions that talks are “very active” and both sides want a deal, but it could take time because getting the right deal is more important than rushing it.

Recently, Spieth has taken on a bigger role in these discussions, even though he initially said that PIF investment wasn’t a top priority for the PGA Tour after their $3 billion deal with Strategic Sports Group.

Negotiations continue with big names like Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy also involved. They are talking to PIF boss Yasir Al-Rumayyan and his team. Spieth tried to stay positive when asked about LIV Golf players returning to the PGA Tour, which is one of the trickiest issues.

“That’s an extremely loaded question that I could get in a lot of trouble answering,” Spieth said, confirming that talks were ongoing. “I’ll just say things of that nature take a little bit of time, but they’re very active.”

Timeline Frustration:

The timeline is frustrating for players and fans alike. But according to PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan, the issues are so complex they need more time.

Spieth agrees it’s better to get things done right rather than quickly. “I would like to see it done right for everyone,” he said. “So the timing is the timing.”

Fans might think this news shows how tricky these negotiations really are.

“Obviously if anything can be done right and done sooner, that’s great,” Spieth added. “But I would rather see it done correctly for golf going forward for as long as possible.”

Spieth has also criticized false stories saying players have too much power in these talks or are too involved.

There have been bumps along the way including Jimmy Dunne resigning from the PGA Tour’s policy board after helping make an agreement on June 6th, 2023.

Despite all this, Spieth remains hopeful about bringing both sides together eventually; however, when exactly this will happen is still uncertain.

What do you think? Will they ever find common ground?
