Even with the Super Bowl LIX showdown against the Eagles looming, Patrick Mahomes still found time to dream up his perfect golf foursome.
The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback didn’t have to think twice about one of his picks – teammate Travis Kelce.
“He’s always a good time,” Mahomes said of his star tight end, who’s been tearing up the NFL playoffs and needs just two more touchdown catches to match Jerry Rice’s postseason record.
But Kelce’s not just there for laughs. The 35-year-old can really play, sporting an impressive 11 handicap and showing off his skills in celebrity tournaments. He’s even got his own indoor golf simulator at his $6 million mansion.
For his other picks, Mahomes went straight to the legends.
“I want to see one of the GOATS play golf,” he said about choosing Jack Nicklaus, the 18-time Major champion. Rounding out the dream team? None other than Michael Jordan, who’s famous for his competitive spirit on both the basketball court and the golf course.
Mahomes himself is no slouch when it comes to golf. The 29-year-old carries a solid 7.7 handicap and has built himself a full-size par-3 hole in the backyard of his $8 million custom home.
But for the Chiefs’ superstar, golf is more than just a hobby. He sees real parallels between the mental challenges on the course and leading an NFL offense.
“That’s why I love golf so much – it’s always different,” Mahomes explained. “You might have a bad throw or an interception, but how do you respond to that next one? Golf is the same way. I might slice or hook one, but can I still get up and down? Can I still find a way to get par?”
Last year, Mahomes and Kelce proved they’re a dynamic duo on the golf course too, teaming up to beat NBA stars Steph Curry and Klay Thompson in The Match.
Looks like whether it’s throwing touchdowns or sinking putts, these Chiefs stars know how to win.
