Golf is back in the Olympics for the third time after a long break.
The Olympic golf course, L’Albatros, is in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, near Paris. It has hosted many big tournaments since 1991, including the DP World Tour’s Open de France.
In 2018, Team Europe won the Ryder Cup there after a renovation in 2016.
From August 1-4 and 7-10, top male and female golfers will compete at Le Golf National. The course was designed like an amphitheater with mounds and hills around each hole to help fans see better.
How Many Fans Are At The Paris 2024 Olympic Golf Events?
During the Ryder Cup in 2018, it was very lively with Team Europe winning 17.5-10.5. Back then, about 270,000 people attended but fewer are expected this August despite tickets selling out fast.
Paris 2024 organizers have set aside 30,000 tickets per day for both men’s and women’s events. This number is lower compared to other major golf tournaments but still impressive for an Olympic event.
Le Golf National’s natural setup means fewer grandstands are needed; however, there will be one by the 18th green seating up to 1,700 people. More spectators will likely be on course each day than at The Masters which sees around 90,000 total visitors all week at Augusta National.
Fans might think it’s cool that more than half of all tickets were sold quickly!
The Open Championship usually has over 250,000 attendees while US Open gets around 225,000 and PGA Championship about 200,000 in recent years.
For women’s Majors like AIG Women’s Open in recent times had over 50k fans attending!
Paris could set a new record for Olympic golf attendance as previous numbers were low: Rio had just over six thousand on opening day; Tokyo had no live audience due to COVID restrictions five years ago.
