Olympic Golfer’s Final Pro Appearance

For the 60 women golfers at the Olympics, playing at Le Golf National is a proud moment.

But for Mariajo Uribe, this tournament holds extra significance as it marks her last professional event.

Uribe has previously competed in the 2016 Rio and 2020 Tokyo Olympics and had hoped to end her career in Paris.

“This is my last year,” she shared. “I am retiring after the Paris Olympics. I just need to make points. This week I was not going to get in the LPGA, so I might as well come here and play, make sure I get a few tournaments in. I love coming to Australia, so it’s nice to come, play some good golf.”

She won that event – her second career victory – which boosted her ranking enough to qualify for Paris as Colombia’s sole representative. Starting her professional journey in 2009, she made an impression early by finishing T10 at the US Women’s Open as an amateur.

Mariajo Uribe’s Career Highlights:

By the end of her first pro year, Uribe had secured spots on both the LET and LPGA Tours. Her first win came at an unofficial LPGA event, the HSBC Brazil Cup in 2011.

Another major highlight was finishing T10 at the 2014 Evian Championship. She also placed T7 at the 2010 LPGA Tour Championship and earned gold medals at the 2015 Pan American Games. In addition, she finished T19 at the Rio Olympics and T50 in Tokyo.

Fans might feel mixed emotions about this news; it’s bittersweet seeing such a talented player retire.

Could there be one final honor on one of the greatest stages of all? Anything is possible! Regardless of how she performs this week, these rounds will surely be cherished memories for Uribe long into her retirement.
