A fresh golf course is coming soon near the famous Castle Stuart in Scotland.
Old Petty at Cabot Highlands will start welcoming golfers for a sneak peek on August 1, 2025, before its big opening in Spring 2026. For two months next year, people can enjoy walking-only rounds at Old Petty. If you’ve already booked a tee time at Castle Stuart, don’t worry—you’ll still get to play there too!
The new course is expected to be one of the most exciting places to play golf in 2026, following in the footsteps of Dumbarnie, another popular Scottish links that opened in 2020. After Cabot bought Castle Stuart Golf Links in 2022, plans were set into motion for this new eighteen-hole adventure named Old Petty. The name honors Old Petty Church nearby, built way back in 1839.

With stunning views of Moray Firth and a tidal estuary, Old Petty offers something special. Its criss-crossing fairways make the beginning and end of your game unique. From most holes, you can spot the castle; plus, there’s a cool short par-3 hole near the end. The driving range doubles as a short course—a feature seen at other Cabot locations like The Nest and The Wedge.
Fans might think this news is super exciting because it adds another fantastic place to play golf in Scotland’s beautiful Highlands.
Before announcing Old Petty, Ben Cowan-Dewar shared his excitement: “We are truly honored to serve as stewards of this remarkable land and carry forward the original vision for the property.” He added that they aim to create unforgettable memories and that few places are as awe-inspiring as the Scottish Highlands.

Located just under ten miles from Inverness near Loch Ness, Tom Doak designed Cabot Highlands’ new layout with Clyde Johnson leading the project. Chris Haspell also lent his expertise after working on Castle Stuart’s original links.
If you’re curious about prices—preview play at Old Petty costs £190 while playing 18 holes at Castle Stuart is priced at £330. What do you think about these new golfing adventures?
