Matt Wallace has had an amazing year, winning his first PGA Tour title and now a DP World Tour victory.
He led the Omega European Masters by four strokes but ended up in a playoff with Alfredo Garcia-Heredia. Wallace won with a birdie on the first playoff hole.
He was emotional as he picked up the trophy at Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club, especially since he narrowly missed out on winning there two years ago.
Wallace’s Redemption
Back in 2018, many thought Wallace deserved a spot on the European Ryder Cup team after three wins in six months. Now, with another Ryder Cup approaching, his win in Switzerland shows he’s determined to make the team.
“I’m very proud of today. I’m going to stop crying because this is happy! I work hard, Ryder Cup, let’s go!” Wallace said after his victory.
July 13th: “I just lack a load of self confidence at the moment…It’s hard…I’m just not where I want to be” 😣
September 8th: "I'm going to do everything I can to be on @RyderCupEurope"#OEM2024

“That was a hard day! It felt like I played alright… Sorry for the tears… I’m happy, that was good!” he added. “I hit good drives but messed up sometimes.”
“I kept pushing and Alfredo did what he needed to do at the end,” Wallace continued. “The last hole brought back memories of two years ago when I lost focus. But today, that’s focus to me and I’m buzzing.”
Fans might think this win puts him in a strong position for future tournaments.
Given how emotional he was just months ago at the Genesis Scottish Open, it’s quite a turnaround for Wallace who now leads early Ryder Cup standings.
