Matt Wallace Ready for Ryder Cup After 2018 Omission

Matt Wallace is prepared to play in the Ryder Cup after missing out in 2018.

Matt Wallace has his eyes set on joining Luke Donald’s European team for the 2025 Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black.

In the past, he missed out on playing in the Ryder Cup, especially in 2018 when he wasn’t picked despite winning three times that year.

Recently, Wallace shared on a podcast how confused he felt about not being chosen for the Le Golf National match six years ago, though now he gets why it happened .

He explained, “Missing out was tough, especially with Dave McNeilly caddying for me. We thought we were in! But looking back, I see why they went with others like Sergio who scored lots of points.” He added that as a rookie then, competing against big stars regularly was new to him and not making the cut at the French Open didn’t help either.

Wallace’s Determination:

Fans might think it’s exciting to see Wallace aiming high again. This time around, he’s hoping to qualify automatically. The qualifying journey began at The Belfry during September’s DP World Tour’s Betfred British Masters where he finished T8. He then won at Omega European Masters and is currently second behind Rasmus Hojgaard in standings; top six make it to the team.

Wallace feels confident even if automatic qualification slips by because of his experience both on Ryder Cup courses and PGA Tour stints. “I came third at PGA Bethpage behind Brooks and DJ,” he stated confidently. “No excuses this time.”

“I’m still a rookie but after five years on PGA Tour facing top players worldwide and beating many,” Wallace said with determination, “I’m ready for any challenge over there.”

His recent form includes finishing T20 at last week’s Andalucia Masters while securing a spot in DP World Tour Playoffs phase concluding 2024 Race to Dubai where extra Ryder Cup ranking points await.

What do you think? Will Matt make it this time?
