Marcel Siem is set to play in the Open Championship at Royal Troon shortly after his 44th birthday.
He’s not seeing this as one of his last big events, though; he plans to keep playing and aims for Luke Donald’s next Ryder Cup team even after turning 45. Since turning pro in 2000, Siem has had ups and downs, including dropping to the Challenge Tour twice before reclaiming his spot on the European Tour and winning seven pro titles.
Despite being ranked World No.48 at one point, Siem narrowly missed a debut at The Masters in 2013 by just one spot. He has played in six Opens, four US Opens, and three PGA Championships but has yet to make it to Augusta National. After winning the Italian Open last week, he hopes that will change.
Speaking with Josh Antmann on Sky Sports Golf podcast, Siem shared how he’s more focused now than ever before. “The big plan is to perform better in the big events now,” he said. “The Rolex events, the majors – that’s how you get into the top 50 in the world and qualify for The Masters.”

Siem added: “I won’t waste this chance by partying anymore. I have three or four weeks off after The Open for that.” He also mentioned starting a new nutrition program focusing on proteins instead of carbs which seems to be working well so far.
Preparation Amidst Busy Schedule:
While many players are taking a break before two major events in Scotland, Siem is preparing for the BMW International Open in Munich. Despite knowing that combining event prep with sponsor and media duties will be tiring, he’s determined to enjoy all perks from his recent tour victory.
Fans might think it’s incredible how dedicated he remains despite all these challenges.
“It’s going to be massively busy this week,” said Siem. “But I’m just going to try and ride the wave.” He aims high with hopes of winning two consecutive tournaments among other goals.
“I’m trying my best,” he concluded. “Let’s make a golf party!”
