Lottie Woad Falls Short as College Teammate Wins Third Straight Title

Mirabel Ting is on fire in college golf, claiming her third straight title with an impressive win at the Collegiate Invitational in Mexico.

The Malaysian star helped Florida State University defend their team championship at Guadalajara Country Club, beating teammate Lottie Woad in both the team and individual competitions.

“She flat out golfed her ball today. It was unreal,” said Florida State head coach Amy Bond after watching Ting’s performance.

Ting was absolutely dominant throughout the tournament. She shot back-to-back rounds of 69 to share the lead after two rounds, then turned it up a notch with a spectacular 66 in the final round. That included five birdies and an eagle.

But this is nothing new for Ting. She’s been crushing it lately.

In 2023, she won four major amateur tournaments, including her very first college event. She kept that momentum going in 2024 with two more wins before summer, then grabbed gold at the Malaysia Games in August.

Then came the real hot streak.

She kicked off the 2024/25 college season by winning the Folds of Honor Collegiate in September. Followed that up by taking the Fall Schooner Classic title. And now this victory in Mexico makes it three in a row.

What’s even more impressive? She made her LPGA Tour debut at the Maybank Championship late last year and finished tied for 12th – pretty amazing for an amateur competing against the pros.

Her teammate Lottie Woad, who’s currently ranked #1 in world amateur golf, has had to settle for second best against Ting several times this season. Woad finished third at the Folds of Honor event and second at both the Fall Schooner Classic and this week’s tournament.

The rivalry between these two is getting really interesting, especially with the Augusta National Women’s Amateur coming up. Woad won it last year, with Ting finishing eighth. But given Ting’s incredible run lately, Woad’s going to have her hands full trying to defend that title.

It’s shaping up to be quite a showdown at Augusta this spring.
