LIV golfer Lee Westwood is gearing up for his first senior Major at the US Senior Open in Newport.
Joining him will be other seasoned pros like Bernhard Langer, Padraig Harrington, and Jim Furyk. Richard Bland, another LIV player who recently won the Senior PGA Championship, will also compete.
Westwood has been on a roll lately with a T3 finish at LIV Golf Nashville and a fourth-place team result for Majesticks GC . He shared his excitement on X about playing at Newport after such a great week.
Great week in Nashville with a T-3rd finish individually and 4th for @MajesticksGC 👏🏼

“Excited to make my senior debut this week at the US Senior Open before heading to [Valderrama] for the next event on the [LIV Golf League] circuit,” he said.
Senior Debut and Future Plans:
Despite being eligible since 2023, Westwood hasn’t played in any senior Majors until now. The 51-year-old has won tournaments on five continents but skipped last year’s Senior PGA Championship and US Senior Open due to tour changes.
In an interview with Peter Finch, he explained why he’ll only play one senior Major this year. “I can actually play in certain senior Majors,” he said. “But there’s so much traveling with LIV events in Houston and Nashville.”
Fans might feel it’s unfair that Westwood can’t participate in all seniors’ events due to fines from DP World Tour for playing LIV events while still a member of their circuit.
He added, “The R&A won’t put their foot down… they pander to the European Tour.” He mentioned significant fines—around £850,000—that he’s unwilling to pay because he disagrees with them.
Do you think it’s fair that players face such restrictions?
