LIV Golf to Discuss Former US Open Venue

Golf courses always want to host the biggest tournaments.

In 2015, Chambers Bay in Washington hosted the US Open just eight years after opening. Now, with US Open venues set until 2042, there are whispers that LIV Golf might be eyeing a major spot.

A representative from LIV Golf’s marketing agency contacted Pierce County about Chambers Bay. Don Anderson, executive counsel to Bruce Dammeier, said talks could start soon. “LIV has its own issues though,” he told The News Tribune. “Golf politics, world politics-wise. You have to be careful there.” He added that they throw a great party with 54 golfers and 54 holes .

Potential for Major Events:

Chambers Bay has hosted events like the US Amateur and US Women’s Amateur before. Another big event could be the PGA Championship, but money is an issue here too.

Anderson is open to working with the PGA of America but says it needs an expensive title sponsor: “That would be tough,” he stated. “The PGA needs a title sponsor that comes up with 150 percent of the purse.” This means $15 to $30 million in sponsorships.

Fans might think this news is exciting yet complicated because of all these financial hurdles.

Currently, LIV Golf has 14 tournaments planned for 2024 in places like Las Vegas and Texas. It’s unclear if more events will be added for 2025; it seems they will stick to 14 tournaments next season.

What do you think about all this? Should Chambers Bay host another big event?
