LIV Golf Player Suggests Key Change to Improve League

Peter Uihlein has seen it all at LIV Golf. As one of the original players who’s competed in every single tournament since day one, he’s got a unique perspective on how this controversial golf league has evolved.

“It’s changed a lot. It just keeps growing, keeps innovating, keeps doing things different,” Uihlein told Golf Monthly.

The 35-year-old American has bounced around between three different teams – first with Brooks Koepka’s Smash GC, then Dustin Johnson’s 4 Aces, and most recently as part of Bubba Watson’s RangeGoats.

He’s pretty happy with how things are going, especially how the bigwigs actually listen to what players have to say.

“Feedback has been great from all the way up the execs,” he says. “Everyone’s on the same page, which is nice.”

LIV Golf has come a long way since its start. They’ve expanded from playing in just two countries to planning a truly global schedule. Plus, they’ve just landed a big TV deal with Fox – a huge win for their visibility in America.

But there’s one big change Uihlein would love to see: more emphasis on the teams.

Right now, most of the attention (and money) goes to individual players. Each tournament has a massive prize purse, with winning teams splitting $3 million. But Uihlein thinks they should flip the script.

“If you really want to make it team centric, you start maybe having the team play for the bigger portion,” he suggests. “That puts much more emphasis on the team, and then the players care more about how the team finishes.”

He’s not alone in this thinking. Louis Oosthuizen, captain of Stinger GC, recently hinted that LIV might be heading in that direction.

“Going forward we all feel that the team side of it is going to take over,” Oosthuizen said. “LIV Golf is probably going to be more team than anything.”

For now though, Uihlein says things will likely stay pretty similar to last season, with maybe a few small tweaks here and there.

After winning twice on the Asian Tour already in 2024, he’s looking forward to what’s next as LIV continues to shake up the golf world.
