Bernd Wiesberger, a player at Cleeks GC, has made the decision to leave LIV Golf after two disappointing years. According to The Telegraph’s Golf Correspondent James Corrigan, LIV Golf has paid a £1.5m fine allowing the 38-year-old to return to the DP World Tour. Wiesberger had accumulated fines after continuing to play on the DP World Tour despite LIV Golf’s legal battle victory. He did not participate in LIV Golf’s Free Agency stage or December’s LIV Golf Promotions event, ultimately leading to his return to the DP World Tour.

In a statement, the DP World Tour confirmed Wiesberger’s desire to play a full schedule in 2024 and “has fulfilled all sanctions – both financial and tournament suspensions.” The payment of the fine reportedly came from LIV Golf, further indicating the circuit’s support for Wiesberger’s return. It was mentioned that Wiesberger may be ineligible for an immediate return, suggesting his suspension will have to be served before he can compete in January’s Dubai Desert Classic – his first event back on the DP World Tour since 2023.

Wiesberger is aiming for an upturn in fortunes after a challenging two years with LIV Golf, where he only achieved one top-10 finish in 22 appearances. His return to the DP World Tour will also provide the opportunity to improve his world rankings. He was ranked 94th when he first joined LIV Golf, but currently sits at World No.510 after the circuit was unable to offer world ranking points.

Overall, Wiesberger is looking forward to making a strong comeback and is hopeful for better results on the DP World Tour. His return to the circuit presents a chance for redemption after his time with LIV Golf.
