LIV Golf is jumping into the creator game with a quarter-million-dollar showdown that’s bringing together pro golfers and social media stars.
The event, called ‘The Duels,’ will take place at Trump National Doral in Miami on April 5th, featuring six of LIV’s biggest names paired up with some of golf’s most popular content creators.
Dustin Johnson, Phil Mickelson, and Cameron Smith are among the pros who’ll be teaming up with YouTube stars and golf influencers for the unique competition.
Here’s who’s playing with who:
• Sergio Garcia with George Bryan
• Bubba Watson with Luke Kwon
• Joaquin Niemann with Rick Shiels
• Phil Mickelson with Grant Horvat
• Dustin Johnson with Wesley Bryan
• Cameron Smith with Fat Perez
The format’s pretty straightforward – teams will play a scramble, where both players hit their shots and then pick the best one to play from. They’ll keep doing this until they finish each hole.
If you want to catch the action, you’ll need to head to Grant Horvat’s YouTube channel, where it’ll stream live. The creators will also share their own behind-the-scenes content in the days following the event.
Mason Nutt and Andrew Santino will be calling the shots from the ground, along with Joey Demare and Robby Berger from Bob Does Sports.
This isn’t the first time golf’s gone all-in on creator content. The PGA Tour kicked off their own Creator Classic last August at the Tour Championship, where Luke Kwon took home the win.
The Tour’s actually ramping things up this year with three Creator Classics planned. They’ve already held one at The Players Championship (won by Grant Horvat), with two more coming at the Truist Championship and East Lake.
The Duels is happening right in the middle of LIV Golf Miami, which runs April 4-6. It’s LIV’s first tournament in the States this year, after stops in Riyadh, Adelaide, Hong Kong, and Singapore.
With both tours now embracing golf’s creator community, it looks like we’re seeing a whole new side of professional golf unfold.
