LIV Golf Hits Milestone at Greenbrier Return

LIV Golf is hitting a big milestone this week with its 100th tournament round.

The first round took place on June 9, 2022, at London’s Centurion Club. Since then, LIV Golf has aimed to be a global force and has hosted events in nine countries including the US, Mexico, Australia, and Saudi Arabia.

In just over a year, they’ve played in 22 cities across 13 US states. With 85 players from 21 countries having participated in at least one of the rounds so far, Richard Bland, Matt Jones, and Peter Uihlein have competed in every single one .

Despite initial controversies and ongoing talks with the PGA Tour and the Saudi Public Investment Fund behind it all, LIV Golf has managed to grow stronger fields and establish itself more firmly in men’s golf.

Players’ Perspectives:

Ian Poulter believes LIV Golf is here for the long haul. “I think every team has been tasked with a go-forward plan; what does three, five, ten years look like,” he said. “And it’s definitely in that window of ‘Don’t think small, think big.’”

Phil Mickelson also sees progress but acknowledges there’s more work ahead. “We’ve come a long ways the last two years,” he noted. “We are not where we want to be. But we are on our way.”

Fans might be thinking that despite all odds, LIV Golf seems to be carving out its own space.

Bryson DeChambeau is excited about the future too. He delivered an unforgettable final round of 58 at The Greenbrier last year and can’t wait for what’s next. “I couldn’t be more excited,” he said. “These 100 days have been incredible.”

As LIV Golf wraps up its third season soon, it’s hard to predict exactly what lies ahead for them after another hundred rounds. But one thing seems clear: despite all the challenges and skepticism at its start, it looks like LIV Golf will continue to make waves in elite men’s golf.

What do you think? Will LIV Golf keep growing or face new hurdles?
