Justin Rose & Billy Horschel Runner-Up Rewards at The Open

Winning The Open comes with some amazing perks.

Xander Schauffele not only gets $3.1 million but also keeps the Claret Jug for a year and earns the title of Champion Golfer of the Year. Meanwhile, Justin Rose and Billy Horschel, who finished just behind him, have plenty to celebrate too.

They may not have won, but Rose and Horschel still get some great rewards . Here are the top bonuses they receive for finishing second at The Open.

Prize Money

In 2024, Royal Troon offered a record $17 million in prize money. While Schauffele took home $3.1 million, Rose and Horschel each earned $1,443,500—more than what winners of some PGA Tour events get!

Exemptions

Finishing in the top 10 guarantees them spots at next year’s tournament at Royal Portrush. They don’t need to worry about world rankings or final qualifying rounds. Plus, they also secure places at the following year’s Masters.

Fans might think this is a pretty sweet deal for coming in second place!

World Ranking Points

Ending up as runners-up gives them 60 world ranking points—not far from what winners of big PGA Tour events earn. Although it’s less than the 100 points awarded to The Open champion, it’s still significant.

FedEx Cup Points

One major goal for PGA Tour players is making it to the FedEx Cup Playoffs and ultimately winning big like Viktor Hovland did with his $18 million prize last year. Regular events offer 500 points to winners; signature events give out 700 points; Majors like The Open award 750 points to champions. Even as runners-up, Rose and Horschel bagged a valuable 400 FedEx Cup points each.

Silver Salver Trophy

While missing out on lifting the Claret Jug can sting , Rose and Horschel do get something special: the Silver Salver trophy that they can keep forever.

What do you think about these rewards? Are they enough for coming in second?
