Jose Maria Olazabal Caddies for Nephew at DP World Tour Q-School

Jose Maria Olazabal caddies for his nephew at DP World Tour Q-School.

The DP World Tour Q-school finale unfolds at Infinitum Golf in Spain.

Over six intense days, only the top 20 players and ties from a starting field of 156 will secure a DP World Tour card for the 2025 season.

Joseba Torres is chasing this dream, with his caddy being none other than Jose Maria Olazabal.

Torres, once a Spanish Under-16 champion and Nova Southeastern University player, has had his uncle Olazabal guiding him for years. “I’m very lucky to have my uncle José María Olazabal on the bag,” he shared. “His experience makes things simple because he knows exactly what to do.”

Fans might think it’s cool that Torres has such an experienced mentor by his side.

Olazabal’s been there since Torres was just three years old, always knowing how to make him comfortable on the course. “Whatever he says I say ‘yes,’ because I really trust him,” said Torres.

Challenges Await:

Despite having the 2012 European Ryder Cup captain with him, Torres faces tough competition. His first goal is making it past the fourth round cut, which narrows down to the top 65 players and ties. He’s up against seasoned players like Edoardo Molinari and Eddie Pepperell, as well as former LIV golfer Kalle Samooja.

For Torres, who’s only played four Alps Tour events before this, it’s a big leap into world ranking events.

He understands it’s a steep climb to earn a DP World Tour card but is eager to learn from everyone around him: “This is my first time here; learning is key.”

With Olazabal’s help, he started strong with a two-under 69 in the opening round but slipped back after shooting a 73 in the third round. Now he’s T93 and seven shots behind those tied for T20 heading into further rounds.

What do you think about Joseba’s chances?
